Whose Life Are You Living?

Enjoy the transformative practice at the end of the video!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

What did you love to do as a child? What did you dream of doing as an adult? Are you doing it? Why or why not?

At a very young age, our parents taught us how to interact with ourselves and the world; essentially, how to “be.” This is why, unless we had very awake and aware parents and/or do inner work on ourselves, we wind up living our parents’ lives. They projected their beliefs and experiences on to us, and often subconsciously, we absorbed those beliefs and used them to form the basis of our lives. Now, in order be ourselves in the world, we have to peel away our parents’ issues so our truth can shine through and we can live authentically as ourselves.

Here are examples of how we could be living our parents’ lives:

Job/career: choosing a job that parents approve of or is the same/similar to theirs, not knowing what we want to do when we grow up, feeling that our dream job isn’t possible for us

Marriage/family: choosing a spouse/partner who is similar to our mother or father, replicating our parents’ relationship dynamics, choosing to have or not have children based on the way our parents raised us, raising our children the way our parents raised us

Finances: similar beliefs as parents around money, such as belief in not having enough, arguments around money, using money to justify doing or not doing something, fear, anger, or unworthiness around money, feeling dissociated from money

Friendships: attracting friends who are similar to our parents

Health: manifesting health issues based on parts of our parental relationship that need to heal, belief in family health history, genetics, and inherited dis-eases

Relationship with ourselves: self-talk that is similar to what our parents say to themselves or what they said to us as children

When we are free of our parents’ view of reality, we are able to create the lives we dream of for ourselves. In truth, there is nothing stopping us, although issues and beliefs arising from early childhood experiences with parents may make it seem so. Learn more about creating a healthy relationship with your parents. Let’s work together to clear your parental issues so you are free to be YOU in the world and live your dreams.
